About Me

Bump Birth & Baby Co believes in Reproductive Justice.

Reproductive Justice is a combination of reproductive rights and social justice. It is a movement working to fight against systems of oppression (such as racism, transphobia, sexism, classism, etc) within reproductive health. It aims to end inequalities that disproportionately effect birthing persons within underserved groups, particularly Black, Brown, Indigenous, and LGBTQ+ communities. Bump Birth & Baby Co believes that all birthing people have the right to respectful and accessible care that supports their choice to give birth if, when, where, and how they want to.

Hey, friend. 👋

I’m Sarah Walborn (she/they) —  your Labor & Postpartum Doula, Childbirth Educator, Certified Lactation Counselor, and Pump Specialist.

I am a Michigan born-and-raised Army veteran, military spouse, and mother of two. I spent the better part of a decade living up and down the east coast before moving to El Paso in 2019. Though I miss being close to water, my time here in the Borderland has given me a deep appreciation for the rich and vibrant local culture and I am so thankful for the opportunity to embrace such an incredible community.

I first entered the realm of birth work in 2017 when I was unapologetically open and honest about my postpartum experience after the birth of my first child. Supporting and guiding people in my life who resonated with my story came naturally and I decided to turn my newfound passion into my profession less than a year later. Now, five years later, I haven had the honor of helping hundreds of families worldwide through education and support.

I was unknowingly induced for my first birth. My second birth was a complete 180.

I know, you’re probably wondering how someone could be unknowingly induced.

Well… technically I agreed to it. When a provider asked me if I “want to have this baby today” I said yes. The problem is that there was never a discussion about what would be done or about the risks and alternatives. I was blissfully ignorant and thought this was how everyone gave birth. I met my sweet baby, Benny, after almost 23 hours in the hospital bed. The birth itself was pretty uncomplicated, but something about it just didn’t feel right. I was then mistreated and blamed by the on-call pediatrician when some medical concerns arose. These two things together set the stage for a depression and anxiety ridden postpartum period.

In my heart, I knew this couldn’t be how birth and new parenthood was supposed to feel. This led me down the road of learning more about birth, postpartum, the state of perinatal care, and how it is all so intricately weaved. My passion for exposing this “business of birth” took over and I began speaking up and out about my experiences and helping those around me through theirs. When I found out I was pregnant again I swore my second birth would be different with all my newfound knowledge… and it was! I held Luther in my arms for the very first time in 2019 after a quick, healthy, nearly-intervention-free birth with the support of my husband, midwife, and doula.

I know first hand what a difference it makes to know your options and have support in your choices.

My style as a birth worker carries an emphasis on autonomy, physiology, and knowing your options and rights in your pregnancy and birth. No matter what type of birth you choose, I believe in helping you have confidence in your wants and needs by centering the most important voice in the room: yoursMy second birth helped me grow in more ways than one. It was incredibly empowering to find physical and mental strength that I didn’t know I had in me. My greatest hope is that during our time together you also find a strength and power within you that will carry into parent-hood (and life!) in ways you’d never imagine.

Do we sound like a good fit?
